Peparation for civil unrest Prison buses in training

by Ellen Brown

Prison buses are driving around empty in the Tucson area. Are Wackenhut and the DHS preparing for civil unrest?

On a recent visit to Tucson, where I was invited to give a presentation on monetary reform, I was disturbed by a story of strange goings on in the desert. A little over a year ago, it seems, a new industrial facility sprang up on the edge of town. It was in a remote industrial zone and appeared to be a bus depot. The new enterprise was surrounded by an imposing security fence and bore no outward signs identifying its services. However, it soon became apparent that the compound was in the business of outfitting a fleet of prison buses. Thirty or so secondhand city buses were being reconfigured with prison bars in the windows and a coat of fresh paint bearing the “Wackenhut G4S” logo on the side.

The new Wackenhut operation is shrouded in mystery. It has been running its fleet of empty prison buses night and day, apparently logging miles on a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) contract. Multiple buses can be seen driving all over town and even on remote desert back roads. Oddly, except for the driver and one escort guard seated in front, these buses are always empty. Wackenhut Services was founded by George Wackenhut in 1954 to provide prison guard services to state and federal governments. Mr. Wackenhut was reported to be something of a brawler himself, having once earned distinction beating up his business partner in a fist fight. Now owned by the Danish corporation G4S, Wackenhut Services has a sinister reputation for hiring thugs. It has been said that it’s hard to tell which is more dangerous, the prisoners or the guards.

Observers originally thought that the purpose of the new Wackenhut operation was to outfit prison buses to be distributed in other parts of the country. But it soon became apparent that none of the buses was leaving the Tucson depot. Recently, a passerby observed what appeared to be a training operation there. In what seemed to be strange activity for 10:30 PM on a Saturday night, the depot yard was fully illuminated, the entire fleet of buses was up and running, and drivers and guards were scrambling around the yard. The question is, what were they training for? Wackenhut has never officially announced itself to the community, and the local news media have never mentioned its presence. Hiring has been discreetly conducted via the Internet, and an apathetic general public has taken little notice.

Among the few who have noticed, one theory is that the prison bus depot is simply infrastructure for border security. But if so, where are the illegal aliens? Why are these buses always empty? What is the alleged justification for burning thousands of gallons of diesel fuel to run thirty decrepit, smoking buses night and day without passengers?

There is another interesting piece to this puzzle. On the desolate plain between Phoenix and Tucson is a tiny town called Florence, Arizona, which features a population consisting largely of prisoners. For decades, Florence has been the home of two of the largest county and federal prisons in the state; and in 2007, a vast new DHS prison was built there as well. Like the Wackenhut buses, this shiny new facility, which literally disappears into the horizon, has gone unannounced and unnoticed by the general public. A new facility for imprisoning illegal aliens? It is hard to imagine such expensive infrastructure being built for that purpose when U.S. policy has been to simply return illegals to their home countries.

Fraud and waste aside, this mysterious activity has sinister implications. Why the obvious secrecy?

Since the World Trade Center disaster in 2001, the Department of Homeland Security has grown to monster proportions, claiming a projected $50 billion of the federal budget in 2009. DHS includes the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), which earned notoriety in 2005 for its gross mishandling of the Katrina disaster in New Orleans. Al Martin, a retired naval intelligence officer and former contributor to the Presidential Council of Economic Advisors, has linked the remilitarization of FEMA to the civil unrest anticipated along with economic collapse. He wrote in a November 2005 newsletter called “Behind the Scenes in the Beltway”:

“FEMA is being upgraded as a federal agency, and upon passage of PATRIOT Act III, which contains the amendment to overturn posse comitatus, FEMA will be re-militarized, which will give the agency military police powers. . . . Why is all of this being done? Why is the regime moving to a militarized police state and to a dictatorship? It is because of what Comptroller General David Walker said, that after 2009, the ability of the United States to continue to service its debt becomes questionable. Although the average citizen may not understand what that means, when the United States can no longer service its debt it collapses as an economic entity. We would be an economically collapsed state. The only way government can function and can maintain control in an economically collapsed state is through a military dictatorship.”1

Good economic news!

The government today is marshalling every resource and every means at its disposal to prop up a failing system of the past. Meanwhile, we live in completely new times. These new times are characterized by an international division of labor, global capital flows, digital information delivery, and the slow but systematic destruction of the establishment in media, banking, and finances. What is emerging to replace them is something that no government on the planet can stop. Markets will not be crushed and they resist control as never before.

These new times are not the 1930s when a few eggheads in Washington could set most prices and wages and gather the captains of industry to cobble together business cartels. The economic and financial world moves at the speed of light and is so diffuse that no political authority can act quickly enough to control it. The establishment is going down. This is another reason that all believers in freedom have reason to rejoice today.

In 12 to 18 months from now, it will be obvious that there is nothing the new administration can do to patch things up. Obama will be humbled by the market just as Bush and Clinton were before him, but this time the humbling will overwhelm any attempts to patch things up or put a spin on the much-needed upheaval.

Yes, there is suffering and there will be more to come. But as a student of the Austrian school and a student of the history of liberty, you have the confidence and clarity to see that freedom alone provides the answers.

It is the time for calm in the face of a storm that few fully understand. Let us, as advocates of freedom, be steadfast, rational, clear, and focused on the long term. Be of good cheer and never stop pointing to the truth about freedom. The answer is not the left nor the right nor the state. The way out of this mess is freedom. It is time we defer to it, and to the revolution in the status quo that freedom implies, and give up pretending as if any politician can finally stop it.

And now Detention Centers for American citizens!

By: Lee Rogers

A new bill has been introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives called the National Emergency Centers Act or HR 645. This bill if passed into law will direct the Secretary of Homeland Security to establish national emergency centers otherwise known as FEMA camp facilities on military installations. This is an incredibly disturbing piece of legislation considering that the powers that be have already set in motion an agenda to setup a nationwide marital law apparatus through U.S. Northern Command and the Department of Homeland Security. Apparently, the fusion centers, militarized police, surveillance cameras and a domestic military command is not enough. Even though we already know that detention facilities are already in place, they now want to legalize the construction of FEMA camps on military installations using the ever popular excuse that the facilities are for the purposes of a national emergency. With the phony debt based economy getting worse and worse by the day, the possibility of civil unrest is becoming a greater threat to the establishment. One need only look at Iceland, Greece and other nations for what might happen in the United States next. With this in mind, it appears as if these so called national emergency centers will be used in a national emergency but only if the national emergency requires large groups of people to be rounded up and detained. If that isn’t the case, than why have these national emergency facilities built in military installations?

Who's running things in Washington?

Obama tapped former ambassador to the United Nations Richard Holbrooke as a special envoy for Afghanistan and Pakistan and related issues.

George Mitchell is not simply a CFR member — he is a former director of the globalist organization.

Mitchell “got his start in Federal politics when appointed by President Jimmy Carter (CFR member),” writes Tom Kovach. “Mitchell is chairman of the second-largest law firm in the world, DLA Piper. You know, the firm that recently put a full-service, ‘multicultural’ office in Dubai. You know, the port city in a country that tried to buy American port operations with oil money. Mitchell’s law firm has a ’strategic alliance’ with a consulting group owned by former US Secretary of Defense William Cohen (CFR member), which did PR work on behalf of DP World, the Dubai company that tried to buy the ports.” DLA Piper represents more than half of the top 250 Fortune 500 clients and nearly half of the FTSE 350 or their subsidiaries.

Mitchell sits on the steering committee of the American Friends of Bilderberg along with such luminaries as Conrad Black, Henry Kissinger, and David Rockefeller.

Ditto Richard Holbrooke. He is on the board of directors of the Council on Foreign Relations. A dedicated Clintonite and former ambassador to the United Nations, Holbrooke brokered the Dayton Peace Accords, the “peace agreement” that partitioned and reduced Bosnia to a NATO and IMF client state, a model of bankster privatization. Holbrooke’s “peace plan” was only realized after massive NATO bombardment of Bosnian Serb territory.

Holbrooke is a consummate insider and global elite operative. Along with Henry Kissinger, David Rockefeller, and Paul Allaire, Holbrooke directs the American Friends of Bilderberg, an organization that takes money from Exxon, Arco, IBM, and other transnational corporations and has its meetings funded by the globalist Ford Foundation, Rockefeller Foundation, and the Carnegie Endowment fund.

It looks like the White House is shaping up to become a branch office of the CFR and Bilderbergers, but then this is simply business as usual. For years, the CFR — with its associate memberships in such international units as the Trilateral Commission, Club of Rome, and Bildebergers — has infested not only the White House, but the State Department, the NSC, the Pentagon, and much of the federal government.

“CFR membership is also inclusive of West Point Superintendents, Allied Supreme Commanders, Secretaries of Defense, and Military Policy members. Media memberships include Time, New York Times, Newsweek, Washington Post, CBS, NBC, ABC, etc.,” writes Noah W. Hutchings. “The CFR also exerts influence on United States personnel at the various United Nations agencies, which is natural, because UN goals usually parallel CFR’s goals.”

The American people think they voted for change, but in fact they simply signed off on four or eight more years of globalist rule.

Fed intervention again

Supplies for crops and cities also have been restricted by several court decisions cutting back allocations that flow through a freshwater estuary called the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta, the main conduit that sends water to nearly two-thirds of Californians. Environmental groups and federal scientists say the delta's massive pumps are one of the factors pushing a native fish to the brink of extinction.

Last year, federal water deliveries were just 40 percent of the normal allocations, fallowing hundreds of thousands of acres and causing nearly $309 million in crop losses statewide. That prompted Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger to issue a disaster declaration, ordering state water managers to expedite any requests to move water around the state, in part so high-value crops like wine grapes, almonds and pistachio trees would stand a chance of surviving.

Federal reservoirs are now at their lowest level since 1992.

With such a grim outlook, many California farmers including Giacone are investing millions to drill down hundreds of feet in search of new water sources.

Depending on how much it rains this winter, federal water supplies could be slashed down to nothing this year, forcing farmers to rely solely on brackish well water. But the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation won't make an official decision until late February, said Ron Milligan, the agency's Central Valley operations manager.

The state Department of Water Resources, which also ships farmers water, has promised to deliver 15 percent of the normal allocations in October, but conditions are so dire that that's now in doubt, too.

"The consequences are expected to be pretty horrible in terms of farmers' revenue, but what's really disconcerting are the possible job losses," said Wendy Martin, who leads the agency's drought division. "Those communities that can least weather an economic downturn are going to be some of the places that are hit the hardest."

Richard Howitt, a professor of agriculture economics at the University of California, Davis, estimates that $1.6 billion in agriculture-related wages, and as many as 60,000 jobs across the valley will be lost in the coming months due to dwindling water.

Analysts haven't yet provided any estimates of crop losses this year. But Bill Diedrich, an almond grower on the valley's parched western edge, said he's already worried he may lose some of his nut trees in the drought.

"The real story here is food security," Diedrich told Milligan and other officials speaking at a conference in Reno, Nev. "It's an absolute emergency and anything to get water flowing quickly is needed."

In the meantime, the forecast appears to be worsening: Meteorologists are predicting a dry spring, and a new state survey shows the population of threatened fish is at its lowest point in 42 years, more imperiled than previously believed.

"This has devastating effects not only for the guys out there in the fields with the weed whackers, but it affects the whole farming industry," said Thomas Nyberg, Fresno County's deputy agricultural commissioner. "I'm just praying for rain."

Icelanders all but stormed their Parliament last night. It was the first session of the chamber after what might appear to be an unusually long Christmas break.

Ordinary islanders were determined to vent their fury at the way that the political class had allowed the country to slip towards bankruptcy. The building was splattered with paint and yoghurt, the crowd yelled and banged pans, fired rockets at the windows and lit a bonfire in front of the main door. Riot police moved in.

Now in the grand sweep of the current crisis, a riot on a piece of volcanic rock in the north Atlantic may not seem to add up to much. But it is a sign of things to come: a new age of rebellion.

The financial meltdown has become part of the real economy and is now beginning to shape real politics. More and more citizens on the edge of the global crisis are taking to the streets. Bulgaria has been gripped this month by its worst riots since 1997 when street power helped to topple a Socialist government. Now Socialists are at the helm again and are having to fend off popular protests about government incompetence and corruption.

In Latvia – where growth has been in double-digit figures for years – anger is bubbling over at official mismanagement. GDP is expected to contract by 5 per cent this year; salaries will be cut; unemployment will rise. Last week, in a country where demonstrators usually just sing and then go home, 10,000 people besieged parliament.

Iceland, Bulgaria, Latvia: these are not natural protest cultures. Something is going amiss.

The LSE economist Robert Wade – addressing a protest meeting in Reykjavik’s cinema – recently warned that the world was approaching a new tipping point. Starting from March-May 2009, we can expect large-scale civil unrest, he said. “It will be caused by the rise of general awareness throughout Europe, America and Asia that hundreds of millions of people in rich and poor countries are experiencing rapidly falling consumption standards; that the crisis is getting worse not better; and that it has escaped the control of public authorities, national and international.”

Ukraine could be the next to go. The gas pricing deal agreed with Moscow could propel the country towards a serious financial crisis. Russia, too, is looking wobbly. A riot in Vladivostok may have been an omen for things to come. What will happen when the wider economic crisis translates into higher food prices? Or if Gazprom has no choice but to increase domestic gas prices?

Governments have so far managed to deflect attention from their role in the crash, their slipshod monitoring, by declaring themselves to be indispensible to the solution. This may save the skins of politicians in wealthier countries who can credibly and expensively try to prop up banks and sickly industries. But it does not work in countries that are heavily indebted, with bloated and exposed financial sectors. There, the irate crowds are already beginning to demand: why hasn’t a single politician resigned? What has happened to ministerial responsibility? Who will investigate government failure?

Good questions, it seems to me, in these unquiet times.

Hamas "America you are next"

Hamas leaders declare war on Catholics, Europe and America, in the name of Allah
Hamas In Their Own Voices - Video by MemriTV

Yunis Al-Astal, Hamas MP and cleric has this to say:

Very soon, Allah willing, Rome will be conquered just like Constantinople was. Today Rome is the capital of the Catholics, or the Crusader capital, which has declared its hostility to Islam. This capital of theirs wil be an advanced post for the slamic conquests which will spread through Europe in its entirety and then will turn to the two Americas, and even Eastern Europe.

Sheik Ahmad Bahr, Palestinian Legislative Council, Acting Speaker:

Allah willing, "you will be victorious" while America and Israel will be annihilated, Allah willing...and kill them all down to the very last one.

Ismail Haniya, Hamas PM:

Oh Americans, Allah will punish you. The time has come for Allah to declare war on you, oh userers!

The Bust Watch

by Bill Bonner

We've been on Bubble Watch for the last ten years.

Now, we're on Bust Watch…

Tim Geithner, Obama's choice for Treasury Secretary, may not have seen the bust on Wall Street coming…but he promises action on a "dramatic scale" to fix it. That is probably what goosed-up the Dow yesterday - up 279 points. Oil rose to $43. Both gold and the dollar went down. The dollar fell to $1.29 per euro…while gold sellers got $5 less per ounce. The price of gold is $850.

"The End of the Reagan Era," is how the French newspaper, The Liberation, described the handover of power to Barack Obama's team.

The Liberation has it right. What we are witnessing is the end of an era. But it's not exactly the era most people think. The voters made a big symbolic change when they elected Obama. But politically, Obama is not so different from Reagan, Bush I, Clinton or Bush II.

A much bigger change has just occurred - and gone almost unnoticed. This one was wrought not by the voters, but by Mr. Market. He has brought an end to the world financial system that arose during the Reagan years.

For the last ten years, these Daily Reckonings have been on Bubble Watch…watching…wondering…marveling…sometimes appalled…sometimes amused…

…what we were watching was the blow up of a crazy system of imperial finance, in which the world's hegemony appeared to live at the expense of its rivals…and the imperial citizens - those in the homeland of the United States of America - drove themselves into bankruptcy so competitors could continue to sell their products at a profit.

It was strange. It was preposterous. But it wasn't dull. We thought it was coming to an end in 2001…when the bubble in dotcoms blew up. Then, well, you know what happened…the feds got to work…and pumped up more bubbles. Now, the Bubble Epoque is nearly over. But Mr. Obama is jumping the gun…

"Starting today, we must pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off and begin again the work of remaking America," he says.

Hold on…there are some huge busts that have to happen first… We're watching for busts in U.S. government debt (U.S. Treasury paper)…the dollar…and finally, after a big run-up, gold. Then, Americans can rebuild on a more solid foundation.

The gist of the world economy for the past quarter century was a division of delusion, which led to huge bubbles. Americans pretended to have good money. Asians pretended to have a good customer. Bankers pretended to have good credits. And Wall Street pretended that toxic assets were good ones.

Asians made; Americans took. Asians saved; Americans borrowed. Americans provided the demand. Asians provided the supply. Asians built a real economy, with real money, and real factories and real skills. America's economy was mostly a conceit, in which people became accustomed to a standard of living that very few of them could afford.

But now it has come to an end. And whom do you think will suffer most?

Our guess: the Chinese!

Eighty years ago, America was in China's position. It was the world's young, growing, dynamic economy. Manhattan soared then as Shanghai soars now. But when the collapse came in the '30s, the demand for American goods shriveled. Foreign and domestic purchasers pulled in their belts and cancelled their orders. For a while, America was out of business. It was only at the onset of WWII that the orders started coming in again in massive quantities.

This time, it's China that's going out of business.

Yes, dear reader, China is going to suffer even more than the United States. At least in the short run. America will lose its position in the world. The dollar will lose its status as the world's reserve currency. Americans will be beaten up - first by deflation, then by inflation. When it is over, they will be poorer, wiser, and probably better people… With a little luck and good leadership, maybe they can sink into a graceful post-imperial poverty…followed by genuine prosperity.

That is the story we'll be covering in The Daily Reckoning going forward. It is the story of BUSTS. Companies will go bust. Governments will go bust (Ireland and Iceland are already effectively broke.) Households will go broke by the millions. And, eventually, even the U.S. government itself will go bust. (A bankruptcy that will most likely be disguised by inflation…)

But China! There, the story will be even more dramatic…even more dangerous…even more explosive!

Editor's Note: Bill Bonner is the founder and editor of The Daily Reckoning. He is also the author, with Addison Wiggin, of the national best sellers Financial Reckoning Day: Surviving the Soft Depression of the 21st Century and Empire of Debt: The Rise of an Epic Financial Crisis.

Bring back Global Warming!

It's time to pray for global warming, says Flint Journal columnist John Tomlinson
by John Tomlinson | Flint Journal Columnist
Monday January 19, 2009, 4:20 AM

If you're wondering why North America is starting to resemble nuclear winter, then you missed the news.

At December's U.N. Global Warming conference in Poznan, Poland, 650 of the world's top climatologists stood up and said man-made global warming is a media generated myth without basis. Said climatologist Dr. David Gee, Chairman of the International Geological Congress, "For how many years must the planet cool before we begin to understand that the planet is not warming?"

I asked myself, why would such obviously smart guy say such a ridiculous thing? But it turns out he's right.

The earth's temperature peaked in 1998. It's been falling ever since; it dropped dramatically in 2007 and got worse in 2008, when temperatures touched 1980 levels.

Meanwhile, the University of Illinois' Arctic Climate Research Center released conclusive satellite photos showing that Arctic ice is back to 1979 levels. What's more, measurements of Antarctic ice now show that its accumulation is up 5 percent since 1980.

In other words, during what was supposed to be massive global warming, the biggest chunks of ice on earth grew larger. Just as an aside, do you remember when the hole in the ozone layer was going to melt Antarctica? But don't worry, we're safe now, that was the nineties.

Dr. Kunihiko, Chancellor of Japan's Institute of Science and Technology said this: "CO2 emissions make absolutely no difference one way or the other ... every scientist knows this, but it doesn't pay to say so." Now why would a learned man say such a crazy thing?

This is where the looney left gets lost. Their mantra is atmospheric CO2 levels are escalating and this is unquestionably causing earth's temperature rise. But ask yourself -- if global temperatures are experiencing the biggest sustained drop in decades, while CO2 levels continue to rise -- how can it be true?

Ironically, in spite of being shown false, we must now pray for it. Because a massive study, just released by the Russian Government, contains overwhelming evidence that earth is on the verge of another Ice Age.

Based on core samples from Russia's Vostok Station in Antarctica, we now know earth's atmosphere and temperature for the last 420,000 years. This evidence suggests that the 12,000 years of warmth we call the Holocene period is over.

Apparently, we're headed into an ice age of about 100,000 years -- give or take. As for CO2 levels, core samples show conclusively they follow the earth's temperature rise, not lead it.

It turns out CO2 fluctuations follow the change in sea temperature. As water temperatures rise, oceans release additional dissolved CO2 -- like opening a warm brewsky.

To think, early last year, liberals suggested we spend 45 trillion dollars and give up five million jobs to fix global warming. But there is good news: now that we don't have to spend any of that money, we can give it all to the banks

Fascist America?

The 14 Defining
Characteristics Of Fascism
by Dr. Lawrence Britt

Dr. Lawrence Britt has examined the fascist regimes of Hitler (Germany), Mussolini (Italy), Franco (Spain), Suharto (Indonesia) and several Latin American regimes. Britt found 14-defining characteristics common to each:

1. Powerful and Continuing Nationalism -
Fascist regimes tend to make constant use of patriotic mottos, slogans, symbols, songs, and other paraphernalia. Flags are seen everywhere, as are flag symbols on clothing and in public displays. TOP

2. Disdain for
the Recognition of Human Rights -
Because of fear of enemies and the need for security, the people in fascist regimes are persuaded that human rights can be ignored in certain cases because of "need." The people tend to look the other way or even approve of torture, summary executions, assassinations, long incarcerations of prisoners, etc. TOP

3. Identification of Enemies/Scapegoats
as a Unifying Cause -
The people are rallied into a unifying patriotic frenzy over the need to eliminate a perceived common threat or foe: racial , ethnic or religious minorities; liberals; communists; socialists, terrorists, etc. TOP

4. Supremacy of the Military -
Even when there are widespread domestic problems, the military is given a disproportionate amount of government funding, and the domestic agenda is neglected. Soldiers and military service are glamorized. TOP

5. Rampant Sexism -
The governments of fascist nations tend to be almost exclusively male-dominated. Under fascist regimes, traditional gender roles are made more rigid. Divorce, abortion and homosexuality are suppressed and the state is represented as the ultimate guardian of the family institution. TOP

6. Controlled Mass Media -
Sometimes to media is directly controlled by the government, but in other cases, the media is indirectly controlled by government regulation, or sympathetic media spokespeople and executives. Censorship, especially in war time, is very common. TOP

7. Obsession with National Security -
Fear is used as a motivational tool by the government over the masses. TOP

8. Religion and Government are Intertwined -
Governments in fascist nations tend to use the most common religion in the nation as a tool to manipulate public opinion. Religious rhetoric and terminology is common from government leaders, even when the major tenets of the religion are diametrically opposed to the government's policies or actions. TOP

9. Corporate Power is Protected -
The industrial and business aristocracy of a fascist nation often are the ones who put the government leaders into power, creating a mutually beneficial business/government relationship and power elite. TOP

10. Labor Power is Suppressed -
Because the organizing power of labor is the only real threat to a fascist government, labor unions are either eliminated entirely, or are severely suppressed. TOP

11. Disdain for Intellectuals and the Arts -
Fascist nations tend to promote and tolerate open hostility to higher education, and academia. It is not uncommon for professors and other academics to be censored or even arrested. Free expression in the arts and letters is openly attacked. TOP

12. Obsession with Crime and Punishment -
Under fascist regimes, the police are given almost limitless power to enforce laws. The people are often willing to overlook police abuses and even forego civil liberties in the name of patriotism. There is often a national police force with virtually unlimited power in fascist nations.

13. Rampant Cronyism and Corruption -
Fascist regimes almost always are governed by groups of friends and associates who appoint each other to government positions and use governmental power and authority to protect their friends from accountability. It is not uncommon in fascist regimes for national resources and even treasures to be appropriated or even outright stolen by government leaders. TOP

14. Fraudulent Elections -
Sometimes elections in fascist nations are a complete sham. Other times elections are manipulated by smear campaigns against or even assassination of opposition candidates, use of legislation to control voting numbers or political district boundaries, and manipulation of the media. Fascist nations also typically use their judiciaries to manipulate or control elections. TOP

An interesting note to end this article: As of January 2004, the United States fulfills all fourteen points of fascism and all seven warning signs are present. But we're not alone. Israel also fulfills all fourteen points and all seven warning signs as well. Welcome to the new republic, redefined, revised and spun. It is not too late to reverse this in either country, but it will be soon. The first step is realizing it. The second step is getting involved. As the propaganda slogan disguising our current war goes, "Freedom isn't free." But our war for freedom isn't abroad; it's here at home.

Democrat - party of love

When a person consciously accepts a philosophy of worldly love, he makes a decision that he will love everyone and will not hate anyone. Therefore, when small frustrations cause bursts of anger, he refuses to admit his feelings of anger into his consciousness. His attitude is, “I couldn’t be feeling hate for Smith. I am a person of love.”

As this person lives his life, there are many small frustrations, leading to many small bursts of anger. If he has accepted a philosophy of love, then he does not admit his anger. Consequently, it remains unfulfilled and builds in intensity. After a while, he is a walking caldron of hate but with the lid tied firmly in place. (By contrast, a person who does not have a philosophy of love utilizes his small frustrations and the anger which results to punish the people who have been unjust to him. The anger is thus discharged in a useful manner and does not build. To take another example, a dog, who can show ferocious anger toward an intruder into the home, will return to psychological equilibrium once the intrusion is over. And the next day this dog will be happy and affectionate.)

So after a time, these people of love are walking caldrons of hate, and all it takes is some tiny event to set them off. Modern examples are road rage, the hippie movement and their violent demonstrations against American soldiers, Christmas shoppers stampedes and fights, school shooters, mothers killing their own children, fired workers killing their ex-bosses, etc. Does this pent up rage in these politically correct "lovers" have national implications in America today? By the 1920's, a critical mass of Germans had reached this point, and their emotions responded when Hitler began to peddle his theory of the master race.

The fact has been hidden from you that the Nazi Party of Germany was founded by leftists. Its full name was National Socialist German Workers Party, and that, of course, is a typical left wing name.

Greed upon greed, agreed?

The Housing Crash of 2008 was the consolidated handiwork of greedy home builders, greedy mortgage lenders, greedy commercial banks, and greedy realtors who made gullible consumers believe the housing boom was in perpetual motion when it was not. And, of course, greedy politicians using the job base of the United States to fuel the growth of the global economy solely to benefit the money barons, the lords of industry and the merchant princes who want to trade the product-saturated consumers in the United States and the other industrialized nations of the world for the human capital of the third world which has nothing and needs everything—especially our jobs.

Cementing the Great American Dream into the marketing package at the community level were greedy county tax appraisers who turned a blind eye to the inflated home valuations since taxes are based not on the price you paid for your home 20 or 30 years ago, but the current value of the dwelling in the housing market—even though you have no intention of selling. It was the legal rape of the taxpayer by local governments who are allowed, by law, to increase your property taxes because some idiot paid too much for a home down the street.

During the mid-1990s, community activist and State Senator Barack Hussein Obama and the US Congressional Black Caucus spiked the Great American Dream by using the racist tactics employed by civil rights activist Jesse Jackson to force community banks to finance subprime mortgages for minorities with histories of not paying their bills. Obama, like Jackson, threatened to accuse the banks of racism for excluding minorities from consideration for home mortgages. Newly elected to the Illinois State Senate, Obama—whose US citizenship was never vetted by the Illinois Election Commission to determine if he was actually a US citizen and therefore eligible to serve in the State legislature—appealed to incoming Fannie Mae CEO Franklin Raines to guarantee the loans for working class blacks to buy homes, regardless of their credit scores. Many of the "incomes" guaranteed by Fannie Mae were actually welfare checks.

With the "lending door" open to home buyers with low credit scores because the economy needed the jobs created by the demand for new homes, underwriting subprime mortgages became the new "profit darling" of the investment banking industry, further weakening the financial underpinnings of a nation already fractured by a decade-long job exodus.

Today, roughly 90% of all of the homeowners in Mountain House, California woke up one day last month and realized the value of their homes were in freefall, averaging about $122 thousand less than the balance of their mortgages. According to FirstAmerican CoreLogic, over 7.6 million homes across the nation are now officially "underwater"—the homes are worth far less than the mortgages. Another 1.2 million homes are sitting on the brink if something does not happen quickly to stop the decline in home values. (Most of these 8.8 million homes were sold during the last five or six years.) The asking prices were inflated by realtor-builders, or artificially-stimulated by market demand. In any event, they simply weren't worth the asking prices that eager buyers were willing to pay, and as the housing market continues to weaken throughout the balance of this decade, home values will continue to correct—regardless of the mortgage balances—until they plateau at pre-2000 values, with homeowners owing more to the bank than the home is worth, creating problems for the banks' asset to debt ratios, and making it more difficult for those banks to loan money to consumers. Thus, the problem is going to be felt by every consumer everywhere and not just those with "underwater" mortgages.

Three Ideas That Should Scare The Hell Out Of You

Things are looking pretty bleak. There is bad news in housing, the stock market, commercial real estate, jobs, and wages . Unfortunately, no matter how bad things are, someone always comes along to propose a "solution" that is guaranteed to make the situation much worse. Please consider the following ideas.

Scary Idea #1

Anatole Kaletsky is proposing to Punish savers and make them spend money.

Near-zero interest rates and even a tax on bank deposits are necessary to force those with cash to use it productively.

Instead of reducing taxes on interest payments, the Government could tax all bank deposits and other risk-free savings. This would create a negative risk-free interest rate, encouraging savers either to invest in property, shares and other productive assets - or simply to save less and consume more. In either case, the result would be more consumption and physical investment, less unemployment and faster recovery from the slump.

Good Lord. We are in this mess because everyone (the state, corporations, households) went on a reckless spending spree. There is overcapacity in homes, autos, retail stores, nail salons, restaurants, and damn near everything else. Only a complete fool would propose taxing savings. Unfortunately, I have no doubt Bernanke is playing with this idea in his head right now.

Scary Idea # 2

Obama Says 'If Paul Krugman Has a Good Idea … Then We're Going to Do It'

Today in his press conference, a reporter questioned Obama about Krugman's criticisms. Obama said that he is open to the economist's ideas: "If Paul Krugman has a good idea, in terms of how to spend money efficiently and effectively to jump-start the economy, then we're going to do it."

Last month, Krugman told radio host Bill Press that he is "in communications" with the Obama team.

The Obama Gap

Krugman is writing about The Obama Gap

Mr. Obama’s prescription doesn’t live up to his diagnosis. The economic plan he’s offering isn’t as strong as his language about the economic threat. In fact, it falls well short of what’s needed.

Bear in mind just how big the U.S. economy is. Given sufficient demand for its output, America would produce more than $30 trillion worth of goods and services over the next two years. But with both consumer spending and business investment plunging, a huge gap is opening up between what the American economy can produce and what it’s able to sell.

And the Obama plan is nowhere near big enough to fill this “output gap.”

To close a gap of more than $2 trillion — possibly a lot more, if the budget office projections turn out to be too optimistic — Mr. Obama offers a $775 billion plan. And that’s not enough.

Krugman is not content with Obama blowing close to a $trillion by himself (more if you count the second installment of $350 billion Obama will blow). Amazingly, Krugman who believes in the free lunch, wants to spend even more.

My Rebuttal for Krugman's Keynesian claptrap, can be found in Krugman Still Wrong After All These Years and also in Fiscal Insanity Virus Rapidly Spreading The Globe.

If Obama listens to anything Krugman says, which now seems likely, it is going to be a disaster. Actually, I mean a bigger disaster.

Scary Idea # 3

Time Magazine is making The Case for Bigger Government.

Thirty years ago, Americans were told that government was part of the problem, not the solution. We bet on the magic of the marketplace, but the magic proved illusory. Every major part of the economy — health care, energy, transportation, food and finance — is deeply troubled. Now we are ready to invite government back in to help solve our problems, if the price is right and the strategies are convincing. By spending more through government and treating government as a partner rather than an enemy of the private sector, we can potentially save vast sums in the long run through a more efficient health-care system, safer climate, more competitive economy and more secure country.

Although Obama's tax cuts might stimulate consumer spending — and placate Republicans — any permanent cut would be a huge error, and even short-term tax cuts are an unnecessary risk. Obama's long-term success will depend on his ability to lead Americans to a new, even revolutionary consensus that the U.S. government can offer value for money.

The Times article contains some of the most ridiculous blather to date. Please read it in entirety as a monumental testimony to stupidity. Here is a short rebuttal.

What Hath Big Government Wrought?

* It was big government that brought us Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.
* It was big government that sponsored the war in Vietnam and the war in Iraq.
* It was big government that gave us nightmare problems we face with Medicaid and Medicare.
* It was big government that gave us overlapping hundred billion dollar systems in the Army, Navy, and Air Force.
* It is big government that sponsored 10's of thousands of pork barrel projects and bridges to nowhere.
* It is big government that gave us the Davis Bacon Act and the insanity pf prevailing wages.
* It was big government sponsorship of the rating agencies that created the "AAA" rated securities that went to zero.
* It was big government that took us off the gold standard and illegally confiscated citizen's money.
* It was big government that allowed fractional reserve lending and theft by inflation this is the root cause of a shrinking middle class today.
* It was big government that created the Fed, and it was the Greenspan Fed that blew serial bubble after bubble culminating in the housing crash we are in today.

Big government either created or made worse every problem we have today. Yet Time Magazine and free lunch proponents like Krugman propose an even bigger government is necessary to fix the enormous problems of an already too big government.

Obama for his part, is listening to this madness. If that does not scare you, nothing will.

These people educate our young?

Ohio State Professor Defends Hamas & Palestinian Supporters Equate Two State Solution to Ethnic Cleansing
Columbus, Ohio. Palestinian Anti-Israel Rally. Janauary 5, 2009.

Did anybody let President Bush and Condoleezza Rice know that Palestinians have no intentions of accepting a two state solution to the Middle East crisis? I guess it should be obvious since two states have been rejected by Hamas, and by extension, the Palestinian people, for years now, but U.S. leaders continue to cover their ears chanting lalalalala. The chants last night, however, by about 300 Palestinians and supporters in front of the Statehouse in downtown Columbus made the goal very clear...Palestine will be free from the river to the sea and Long live the intifada. The buzz at the rally was Israelis are colonialists, illegally there, murderers, and genocidal maniacs. Some of the speakers were children. One child, who looked to be around age 7 and proudly prompted by his mother, sounded this call: Go forward young Muslims, wherever you are, to the light of Allah. Together we shall stand for the pleasure of Allah. He will forgive us, all say Insha'Allah. Go forward young Muslims wherever you are.

Makes you wonder what needs forgiven. And pleasure of Allah? It can only be hoped that it's not the oft quoted Jew killing in this Islamic Hadith:

"Mohammed said in his Hadith: 'The Hour [Day of Resurrection] will not arrive until you fight the Jews, [until a Jew will hide behind a rock or tree] and the rock and the tree will say: Oh Muslim, servant of Allah, there is a Jew behind me, come and kill him!'" PA TV Dec. 27, 2004 [Rebroadcast from July 13, 2003]

When I asked spokesperson Pranav Jani, Assistant Professor at The Ohio State University (and introduced with some sort of connection with the International Socialist Organization) if Hamas was a terrorist organization, he skirted the issue or applied moral equivalence to the United States. Jani led the chant Long live the Intifada. The first Intifada in the late eighties spawned Hamas. Jana soundly rejects a two state solution to the conflict. He, and it seemed, all the Palestinians and supporters at the rally support a one state solution.

During the entire rally, I did not hear one speaker state that the overall conflict is specifically the result of Gaza or the West Bank. It is the sheer existence of Israel. My sense is that Palestinians will not embrace peace alongside Israel. They want all the land from the river to the sea. Many times the protesters chanted No Justice. No Peace. I think what they really meant is No Israel. No war.

Atlas Shrugged

From the Wall Street Journal today:

For the uninitiated, the moral of the story is simply this: Politicians invariably respond to crises — that in most cases they themselves created — by spawning new government programs, laws and regulations. These, in turn, generate more havoc and poverty, which inspires the politicians to create more programs . . . and the downward spiral repeats itself until the productive sectors of the economy collapse under the collective weight of taxes and other burdens imposed in the name of fairness, equality and do-goodism.

In the book, these relentless wealth redistributionists and their programs are disparaged as "the looters and their laws." Every new act of government futility and stupidity carries with it a benevolent-sounding title. These include the "Anti-Greed Act" to redistribute income (sounds like Charlie Rangel’s promises soak-the-rich tax bill) and the "Equalization of Opportunity Act" to prevent people from starting more than one business (to give other people a chance). My personal favorite, the "Anti Dog-Eat-Dog Act," aims to restrict cut-throat competition between firms and thus slow the wave of business bankruptcies. Why didn’t Hank Paulson think of that?

These acts and edicts sound farcical, yes, but no more so than the actual events in Washington, circa 2008. We already have been served up the $700 billion "Emergency Economic Stabilization Act" and the "Auto Industry Financing and Restructuring Act." Now that Barack Obama is in town, he will soon sign into law with great urgency the "American Recovery and Reinvestment Plan." This latest Hail Mary pass will increase the federal budget (which has already expanded by $1.5 trillion in eight years under George Bush) by an additional $1 trillion — in roughly his first 100 days in office.

The current economic strategy is right out of "Atlas Shrugged": The more incompetent you are in business, the more handouts the politicians will bestow on you.

Synagogue set ablaze and anti-Semitic assaults soar in UK following Israel's invasion of Gaza

By Robert Mendick and Neil Millard
Last updated at 10:33 AM on 06th January 2009

The number of anti-Semitic attacks in London has risen sharply following Israel's land assault on Gaza, Jewish community groups said today.

Their leaders have compiled a dossier of attacks against Jews which will be handed to seniors officers in the Metropolitan police.

The attacks include claims of:

* An attempt to burn down a synagogue in north-west London.
* An assault on a Jewish motorist who was pulled from his car and punched.
* A gang of youths chanting anti-Semitic slogans as they tried to enter restaurants and shops in Golders Green.

This week has seen the emergence of anti-Semitic graffiti in Jewish areas of London. Slogans sprayed on walls include: 'Kill Jews' and 'Jews are scumbags'

The Community Security Trust, which is responsible for the safety of Jews in Britain, has also noted the emergence of anti-Semitic graffiti in Jewish areas across London.

Slogans sprayed on walls include: 'Kill Jews' and 'Jews are scumbags.'

The trust has now logged 24 anti-Semitic incidents - most of them in London - in the past week. Police are said to be stepping up patrols in Jewish areas.

* Battle for Gaza City nears end game as Israelis seize rooftops in street battles with Hamas
* At least 14 children killed in Gaza terror as Israel defies demands for a ceasefire

Mark Gardner, the trust's spokesman, told the Standard: 'There has been a significant rise in the number of anti-Semitic incidents, especially when compared with what is usually a very quiet time of year for racist, anti-Jewish attacks.

'It is a pattern with which we and police are now sadly familiar, whereby hysteria is whipped up against Israel: and British Jews then suffer a wave of anti-Semitism.'

The arson attack on the synagogue in Brondesbury took place on Sunday night. The arsonists first tried to smash open a window but failed because of the toughened glass in place to protect such buildings from terrorist attacks.

Mr Gardner said: 'Having been thwarted they then appear to have attempted to set the front door alight with petrol, causing some damage to the exterior of the premises. Police, CST and fire brigade attended the scene.'

On New Year's Eve, a man was pulled from his car just as he was about to drive off and assaulted by three men whom he described as being of Arab appearance.

The victim did not suffer any serious injury. The same night a gang of youths alarmed locals in Golders Green by trying to enter Jewish shops while chanting anti-Israeli slogans.

Joey Ben-Yoav, manager of nearby Met Su Yan, a kosher Chinese restaurant in Golders Green, said: "It was scary. They were waving flags and shouting. It felt like if we went out they would hit us or something.

'They walked past a few Jews and just shouted 'Jew' at them. They did not look like they were in the mood for making peace.'
